The Journey Continues

Well, this is the final lesson of the final project. Once again, a huge congratulations for making it this far! 🎉

My goal with this course has been to help you build a solid, sturdy foundation with React. What you build on top of that foundation is up to you.

The most important thing is to keep practicing. A lot of people get stuck in tutorial hell because they go from tutorial to tutorial, from course to course, without trying to practice what they've learned in an unguided way.

As I mentioned earlier in the course, I published a blog post that shares my entire strategy when it comes to learning new tech skills. It's called “How To Learn Stuff Quickly”. If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend checking it out. I think it'll give you some ideas on what to do next!

Now that you've made it through this course, my biggest recommendation would be to start a passion project:

  • If you've wanted to start a dev blog, you can use the project we've been working on as the starter for your new blog! This would make an excellent passion project. 😄
  • If you have a non-tech interest (knitting, golf, photography, gardening, whatever), can you create something that'll help you in those pursuits?
  • If not, do you have any friends or family who could benefit from your newfound skills? Maybe a sibling who wants to start their own e-commerce store, or an artist friend who could use a portfolio site?

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what you choose to build, as long as you have some level of interest in it. If you're passionate about the thing you're building, if you genuinely want it to exist, it'll be so much easier to find the motivation to work on it.

I'd also suggest trying to mix in some new tools, to expand your learning. Maybe your new project can use TypeScript, or include some unit tests, or use an authentication provider! Challenge yourself, but don't push yourself too hard — if it's too overwhelming, you're likely to give up, and that's the worst-case scenario!

If you have any questions around what to do next, feel free to ask in Discord!

Thanks so much for the support, and best of luck on your journey with React. ❤️
